The Borinqueneers Park Education Alliance, in collaboration with its partners, the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey and the New Jersey State Veterans Chamber of Commerce, proudly announces a special film screening of the award-winning PBS Documentary THE BORINQUENEERS to honor Hispanic Heritage Month and launch a fundraiser to raise capital for the development of a community park in Perth Amboy dedicated to 65th Infantry Borinqueneers of the U.S. Army.

Highlighting the event, actor David Zayas, renowned for his roles in HBO’s “Dexter” and “OZ” and Hulu’s “THE BEAR,” will receive the prestigious “Caballero Award.” This award honors individuals who demonstrate extraordinary dedication, kindness and service to the community. Acclaimed actor and Air Force veteran, Zayas is celebrated for his unwavering commitment to giving back. His work, both on and off the screen, epitomizes the principles of service, compassion and leadership that the Caballero Award recognizes.

Narrated by actor Hector Elizondo, the PBS Documentary Film explores the courageous stories of triumph and struggle of the men of the US 65th Infantry Regiment, the only Hispanic-segregated unit in US Army history. Through rare archival materials and compelling interviews with veterans, commanding officers and historians, the film screening will be in commemoration of  the 125th Anniversary of the Regiment (1899-2024). Filmmaker Noemi Figueroa Soulet will be in attendance with a special presentation of the documentary film.
