The New Jersey Bike & Walk Coalition will be holding its 13th NJ Bike & Walk Summit on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Middlesex County College in Edison, N.J. The theme for 2024 is “Safe Streets & Trails for an Equitable and Sustainable NJ,”
The Summit is New Jersey’s premiere conference for bringing together street safety, pedestrian and bicycling advocates; urban planning, transportation and infrastructure professionals; elected and government officials; environmental, climate change and open space activists; and biking and hiking enthusiasts. To celebrate its first in-person conference since the COVID-19 pandemic, NJBWC will be making a major announcement aligned with this year’s theme, and has assembled a roster of speakers, panelists and programming that includes some of the leading experts and organizations in their fields.
Additionally, the summit is completely accessible by public transportation and bicycle.
This year’s keynote speakers will be Barkha Patel, Director of Infrastructure for The City of Jersey City; Shawn M. LaTourette, NJDEP Commissioner; and Beth Obsorne, Director of Transportation for America. Programs and panels will explore such topics as Vision Zero implementation; equitable mobility; accessibility and safety; micromobility; designing safer streets; trail connectivity and the Greenway (formerly the Essex Hudson Greenway).
The NJBWC will also be announcing the 2024 winners of the annual Marty Epstein Advocacy Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in advancing the goals and mission of NJBWC.
“After hosting a very successful remote summit, our team has really gone above and beyond in assembling this year’s program,” said Debra Kagan, NJBWC Executive Director. “We are so grateful to our keynote speakers, sponsors and panelists. We urge everyone to join us and take advantage of the opportunity to learn from these experts and use this knowledge to improve opportunities for safe biking, walking, and rolling in their communities,” Kagan said.
