Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin, Transportation Commissioner Jim Simpson and Community Affairs Deputy Commissioner Betty Lou DeCroce told conference participants at various events about key regulatory and policy changes affecting county governments. The annual NJAC Legislative Forum generated some sparks as lawmakers from both parties debated the most pressing issues of the day, including the Governor’s proposed budget, his proposed cap on county and local governments and several other issues in which NJAC has been directly involved.
The Association presented its Legislator of the Year Award to two lawmakers at the forum. Assemblywoman Valerie Vaineri-Huttle and Assemblywoman Elease Evans, both former county freeholders, shared the award for their various legislative achievements and for their support for county governments.
Taking home the Business Associate of the Year Award was banking and financial services leader Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo has been a dedicated member of the Association for years. It was singled out this year for its commitment to the organization and its activities.
NJAC President Peter Palmer presented the annual NJAC County Service Award to the Somerset County Management Team. The group is composed of the county administrator and top department heads who were recognized for their professionalism, dedication and extraordinary performance in running the Somerset County government.
The NJAC Exhibit Hall was busy again this year with dozens of companies displaying their products and services aimed at helping counties save money and deliver better services. Among them were many first-time NJAC members and conference exhibitors, including US GovBids, Alteris Energy, Blue Sky Power and Patch Management.
